Drought-hit Chagai still waiting for government aid

QUETTA: Despite consecutive calls by district administration the Provincial Government is yet to start relief operations in drought hit regions of the province forcing people to migrate towards other areas.
Deputy Commissioner Chaghi had written a letter to the provincial government calling immediate attention towards burgeoning drought in Balochistan’s Chaghi District but despite passage of 20 days the relief operation is yet to be commenced.
According to District Administration the Chaghi District has been under severe grip of drought from past many years while hundreds of livestock have been dead and people have been facing malnutrition. More than 7000 families have been affected by recent drought and forced to migrate to other cities.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had departed relief goods comprising on food items and tents for 3000 families last week but the distribution of ration is yet to be started among the affected families.
According to reports coming from Chaghi District, the relief goods still kept in official warehouses but the affected families waiting for ration distribution.
People have lamented over the lack of provincial government’s interest in providing lack of operation in Chaghi District which has leadership of Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Provincial Finance Minister Mir Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani.
