Four killed in Quetta coal mine explosion


03/06/18   QUETTA Balochistan Express: At least four bodies were recovered when a coal mine caved in due to a gas explosion in Quetta’s Sanjdi area on Sunday.
Rescue operations managed to recover bodies of four colliers from the debris following the explosion.
Three injured were shifted to a local hospital.
Last month, at least 23 colliers were killed after two mines in Marwar and Surr Range caved in due to methane gas explosion. The incidents sparked anger among the coal miners community while the Chief Justice of Pakistan also took sou motu notice of the incidents.
On May 10, the Provincial Mining and Mineral Development Department formed a four-member committee to investigate Marwar and Surr Range coal mine tragedies.
The committee, led by Director General Mining Development Muhammad Imran Zarkoon and comprising Chief Mine Inspector Iftikhar Ahmed, Project Director Geo-Data Quetta Jamil Kehtran and Director Mining Exploration Abdullah Shahwani, was tasked to fix responsibility over negligence towards safety of workers.
